Meet Christina Maxwell

Christina is the founder of Maxwell Counseling & Consulting and specializes in the treatment of anxiety and obssessive-compulsive disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. She enjoys treating pediatric OCD and anxiety disorders and supporting parents as they learn how to respond effectively and compassionately to their child’s symptoms.

Christina earned her Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Boston College and is licensed as an LCPC in Illinois and an LMHC in Massachusetts. During her time in Massachusetts, she worked in a variety of clinical settings in the Boston area, providing individual and family therapy across the lifespan.

Christina was initially trained in psychodynamic therapy but became drawn to more active, evidence-based approaches that promote meaningful and sustainable change. She completed advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), including trauma-focused CBT, and holds certifications in Parent Management Training, Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS), the International OCD Foundation’s Pediatric Behavioral Therapy Training Institute (BTTI; 2017), and Gottman Level 1. She integrates CBT with mindfulness-based and compassion-focused therapy techniques to help clients develop flexibility, resilience, and confidence in managing anxiety.

Prior to opening Maxwell Counseling and Consulting, Christina worked at The Anxiety Treatment Center of Greater Chicago, where she received further specialized training in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders using evidence-based interventions.

Christina is known for her warm, collaborative, and practical approach. She works as an active therapist, utilizing structured interventions, real-world practice, and between-session exercises to help clients build skills they can apply independently. She establishes strong rapport with children and adolescents and places a high value on supporting parents with clear guidance and tools to respond to anxiety in ways that foster long-term emotional growth rather than short-term relief.

Christina works with clients ages 3 and up and has extensive experience treating anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive spectrum disorders, trauma-related concerns, and mood disorders. She feel passionate about helping children and adolescents develop emotional resilience, tolerate uncertainty, and build confidence through developmentally appropriate challenges.

Christina is a professional member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) and the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF).

Outside of her professional work, she is busy raising her three boys, staying active in the community, and navigating the lively pace of family life. An East Coaster at her core, she has adapted to calling the Chicagoland area home for the past 11 years. She savors spending time with friends who feel like family, going for a run, staying active alongside her kids, and sneaking back to the East Coast whenever possible for a much-needed dose of ocean air.
